About Glitter
Glitter was established in 2021 to eliminate the litter in the streets of Philadelphia. Glitter allows neighbors, businesses, and community groups to sponsor the work of “Glitter Cleaners” to clean in areas in need of cleaning in Philadelphia (which is most of them). Glitter’s goal is to improve the cleanliness of the streets and neighborhoods of Philadelphia while putting well-earned money in the pockets of people who need it most.
Glitters Challenge’s
The trash crisis in Philadelphia is an environmental justice issue. There are 18,872 residential blocks in the city of Philadelphia and at least half of them are varying degrees of what can only be called ‘A Hot Mess’, according to data gathered in the 2019 Philadelphia Litter Index Map. Glitter’s new MilkCrate app allows them to make their information more accessible and to engage with everyone.
How MilkCrate Helped Glitter
Glitter has partnered with MilkCrate to develop an app that allows individuals to report litter in their local neighborhoods and hire cleaners to pick up waste to improve the cleanliness of the streets.
